The Main Stylin' Nook originally got involved with Locks of Love for a couple of reasons." We originally wanted to do a fundraiser for cancer because my Mom had cancer, one of the original stylist's here had cancer...and we were looking for a fundraiser for the community," said April Kowalski-Milbrodt.
We hold our annual Locks of Love benefit the second Saturday of every October, so mark your calendars. We offer free haircuts and styles year round to anyone donating ponytails to Locks of Love, in addition to the day of our benefit.
Locks of Love is a not for profit organization that provides custom made wigs to financially disadvantaged children with medical hair loss. Some suffer from alopecia - an auto immune condition that results in total hair loss- while others may have lost their hair from cancer treatments or severe burns. Hair donations must be at least 10 inches long from tip to tip to donate. That is the ONLY requirement! ALL hair types accepted!!
Each custom made hairpiece takes over 3 months to complete and costs over $3000.00.
In 2011 The Main Stylin' Nook raised $996.00 during it's 6th Annual Locks of Love Benefit and collected over 400 inches or hair during the benefit alone! The salon total for the year was 1333 inches!!
